Zhangjiang National Lab will have developed a highly effective management and operation system by 2020 and towards 2030, it aims to develop into a world-class lab and nurture a group of top scientific talents and make breakthroughs in science and technology, according to the lab's development plan published on Pudong's website on March 1.
In order to achieve these ambitious goals, Zhangjiang will make greater efforts to develop big scientific devices such as living cell imaging platform and soft X-ray free electron laser facility.
At present, the lab has been cooperating with Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences and hired Wang Xi, who is an academician in the institute, to supervise the operation of the lab.
Moreover, national projects such as Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility and Protein Facility have been incorporated into the lab, so its operation will also be one of the national strategies.
Besides, owing to the lab, Shanghai has successfully carried out three major projects, namely hard X-ray free electron laser, silicon photon technology and brain science and artificial intelligence.
In the future the lab will work with Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre of Belgium and Leti, a technology research institute in France in building China's Innovation Center of integrated circuit. This move is significant as the cooperation will advance the research and development of integrated circuit technologies.
